Julian Festival

For over twenty-five years the Friends have hosted an annual Julian Lecture given by eminent scholars. The lecture forms the centrepiece of the Julian Festival which takes place on the nearest Saturday after May 8th each year.

Next year's festival will take place on Saturday 8th May 2010 and the lecturer will be Barry Windeatt. He will be speaking to the title: Julian's Showings: work in progress.

Barry Windeatt is a Professor of English at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He began his career at Cambridge as a College Lecturer in English in 1978 and was subsequently appointed as a Reader in Medieval Literature (1995-2001), and, from 2001, Professor of English. He has also been Director of Studies in English (1979-97) and a Tutor (1983-95). He is Keeper of Rare Books and Special Collections in the College Library, and since 1990 he has curated the College's collection of portraits and paintings.

Barry Windeatt's research interests lie in comparative literature, literature and the visual arts, and the literature of mystical experience. He is author and contributing editor of a number of books including The Book of Margery Kempe (Brewer 2006), Troilus and Criseyde (Oxford World Classics) and English Mystics of the Middle Ages; and he is is currently working on the text of The Revelations of Divine Love for a book on Julian.
